5+ Stars for Jack of Hearts by A.M. Snead – #M/M Romance #Erotic

Jack of Hearts

Title: Jack of Hearts (Boys of Porn #1)
Author Name: A.M. Snead
Publication Date & Length: September 8, 2014 – 179 pgs

Synopsis

In a taboo industry that thrives on raw, emotionless sex, Gideon Dodd is a visionary who views gay sex as a thing of beauty and something to be celebrated rather than exploited. Gideon’s boys are the best in the business, not merely for their exquisite talents but for the bonds they share with one another as their mutual love for each other thrives on and off the camera. But as within all families, tension – and even jealousies – arise and threaten their ‘harmony’ at both home and work.

Jack Heart – 21, cute and with just enough “cockiness” to be a natural in front of the camera – has a passion for sex, but not for love. Believing that the porn industry poses no threat to his heart, Jack is surprised to discover a new home and a close-knit family among Gideon Dodd’s boys. With Parents who disapprove of his “lifestyle”, and the one person he was closest to now gone, Jack is drawn into the family atmosphere that Gideon has created. Yet when co-star Garrett North begins to test his resistance to falling in love, Jack’s heart suddenly becomes the prize to win. But is Garrett playing for keeps…or is Jack simply another conquest for popular porn star, Garrett North?

I absolutely could not put this book down. I had to have MORE.. I had to know what was going on.. While the book does have quite a few intense (and SUPER hot) sex scenes, there is a crazy, on the edge of your seat, What on Earth, who is it situation going on as well.
Jack is the new boy in Gideon’s team of boys that make porns. He is an instant hit with everyone, but one man in particular draws him in like no other ever has.
While trying to deny these growing feelings, Jack is also getting over the quick and painful death of his twin sister. I absolutely loved this part of the story. I felt like even though she wasn’t really there, we got to know her from her notes and comments throughout the story.
The twins.. LOVED.. They were so fun and sexy and awesome all around.
Garrett and Lucas… Loved and hated them for different reason and I’m not giving them away!
I can’t rave enough about this book, really. It’s everything a book should be. It’s sexy. It’s thrilling. It’s exciting. The characters are relatable and flawed and real. I’ll even go as far as saying that A.M. Snead is now my favorite M/M author (and that’s not an easy thing to do)

First off, this book had some strange formatting issues. I am unsure if the “changes” between sections were meant to be big black rectangles, but that is what it looks like on the Kindle version. Also, there were some significant spacing issues – where some words were broken up incorrectly or no space was inserted between words. It detracted from the story somewhat, but as long as someone goes back through and fixes those bugs, I think it will be in overall good shape.  One thing that can kind of be distracting for me as a reader is when I want to skip back to a chapter for whatever reason. This type of format does not allow for that, so that was slightly disappointing, especially when I wanted to go back to clarify something I had read.

I really enjoyed the characters in this story. While they are all somewhat of “lost boys”, when they come together, they really are very family oriented. I think my favorite character was Jill. She was spunky and snarky, but so full of love for Jack.

Gideon is the father figure for these “lost boys” and I really enjoyed how he took pride in his children. We are given a sneak peek at what might haunt him, but not enough that it really adds to the story, so I was somewhat curious about his back story. I hope we get to learn more in the upcoming books.

Garrett, Scotty and Jack are kind of the main characters in this story, but “The Twins” are also major players. Each of the dynamics that Snead wrote between these characters was fantastic. You can truly feel the love, angst, hate and uncertainty that each character has amongst the group or in himself.

The sex scenes were hot and wonderful, sad and grotesque, depending on who you were reading about.

I can’t wait for the next book! I want to tease out why things ended the way they did and if Jack really did hear what he heard.

AuthorBio

A.M. Snead was born and raised on the Pacific West Coast, and continues to live in scenic rural Coos County. Having started writing seriously just two years ago, she began with suspense/thrillers and erotic romance, but soon discovered her true passion in M/M romance and passing on the message that ‘all love is beautiful’ and should be cherished and respected and accepted. Being raised in a conservative Christian home, she grew up with the belief that being gay was a sin. But upon reflection of the bible and what she knew of God, she couldn’t help but believe that this was a grave misinterpretation of scripture and God’s view of the matter. Above all, she hopes to weave the message of God’s love for ‘all’ throughout her novels and help others understand the anguish and torment that gays often suffer simply because of who they love. “No one,” she says, “has the right to tell another human being who to love, or that the love they feel is wrong. That is a very intimate, personal matter between that person, the one they love, and God. It is no one else’s place to persecute them for following their heart.”
