Synopsis

Don’t look back. Don’t you ever look back…

Shy tattoo artist Ash has a troubled past. Years of neglect, drug abuse, and life on the streets have taken their toll, and sometimes it seems the deep, unspoken bond with his lover is the only balm for wounds he doesn’t quite understand.

Chicago paramedic Pete is warmth, love, and strength—things Ash never knew he could have, and never even knew he wanted until Pete showed him. But fate is a cruel, cruel mistress, and when nightmares collide with the present, their tentatively built world comes crashing down.

Traumatic events in Pete’s work life distance him from home, and he doesn’t realize until it’s too late that Ash has slipped away. Betrayal, secrets, and lies unfold, and when a devastating coincidence takes hold, Pete must fight with all he has to save the love of his life.

FiveStars

Slide is a book I had trouble putting down. It’s a beautiful love story, full of sympathy and understanding for its characters and the setting, which comes alive. I FEEL Chicago as much as I feel Ash and Pete living on each page.
Pete is an EMT and Ash is a homeless tattoo artist and they fall in love. Then shit happens. And like, how refreshing and neat to read a book about a couple, rather than the slow burn of a first time story. Though that is included.
When I picked the book up I wasn’t expecting the high-quality parable I got. The sex is both steamy and helps tell the story… and… it’s hard to write about a book I love so much! It’s emotionally compelling, sleekly written (did I mention that?) and it’s a book EVERYONE should read, not just people interested in the m/m genre. This is a book for the ages.

Question 1 What interested you in writing the anti-hero?It wasn’t deliberate. Ash and Pete just are who they are. They are both naturally reticent and private. Pete is especially heroic in Rare (book 2), but I reckon any kind of recognition for that would be his worst nightmare.
Question 2 If you could meet one character in real life from Slide—who would it be and why?Pete. He is, and will probably remain forever, my most fascinating character. Ash is a convoluted soul, but Pete…it never ends.
Question 3 Would you mind sharing some of your ups and some of your downs about writing and about publishing? Any advice to new and upcoming authors? The upside is definitely seeing your words in print, reading positive reviews, and the very real feeling that you’re contributing something to the world.

The downsides are the overflowing inbox, days and days of bloodbath editing, and that constant, nagging sensation that you’re just not good enough.

Question 4 Why focus on the LGBT et al genre? What are the plusses and what are the minuses of doing so?I write MM because I’ve yet to find a female voice that feels good to write.

As for the LGBT genre, despite the constant hoopla about chicks writing about dicks, I find it a very pleasant place to be.

AuthorBio

Garrett Leigh is a British writer and book designer, currently working for Dreamspinner Press, Loose Id, Riptide Publishing, and Black Jazz Press. Her protagonists will always always be tortured, crippled, broken, and deeply flawed. Throw in a tale of enduring true love, some stubbly facial hair, and a bunch of tattoos, and you’ve got yourself a Garrett special.

When not writing, Garrett can generally be found procrastinating on Twitter, cooking up a storm, or sitting on her behind doing as little as possible. That, and dreaming up new ways to torture her characters. Garrett believes in happy endings; she just likes to make her boys work for it.

Garrett also works as a freelance cover artist for various publishing houses and independent authors under the pseudonym G.D. Leigh. For cover art info, please visit blackjazzpress.com
