Author Name: Susan Mac Nicol
Publication Date & Length: Oct 9, 2014 — 160 pgs

Synopsis

One of London’s up-and-coming chefs, Eddie Tripp has just the right recipe to drive tragedy from the mind of Gideon Kent—and leave him senseless with desire.

THE MEN OF LONDON
From Soho to Norwich, there’s no escaping love.

A TASTE OF FOREVER
An award-winning chef with his own restaurant and an inexhaustible passion, Gideon Kent once had everything. Then came tragedy. It stole more than Gideon’s home. He hasn’t cooked since.

Until Eddie Tripp. Fun-loving and vivacious, the Norfolk redhead’s a real up-and-comer in Gideon’s kitchen—and other places. Slim where Gideon’s broad, easy-going where Gideon is growly, he and Gideon seem polar opposites, and yet Eddie conjures flavors that would tempt anyone with a taste for perfection. The sauce of love is already simmering, and this pair is about to dine on the most delicious dish they’ve ever prepared. Because Eddie’s been Gideon’s missing ingredient all along.

AuthorInterview

I have to confess. I’m not really a cook of any sort. I come from a long line of illustrious family members who can create spectacular dishes, lay on a dinner party for thirty people without batting an eye, and who always seem to make everything look as if it’s been served up in a fancy restaurant. Alas, that’s not one of my *ahem* many talents. I can make clay models, glass paint a piece of glass, write a story, and raise one eye brow like Spock. I make a mean Mexican fajita though.

So when I started writing Love You Senseless, I had to rely on the expertise of living in said family when it came to the chef part of the story. The idea behind this book wasn’t because of the cooking. It was because of the scenario that asked ‘what would life be like without certain senses and, even more so, if you relied on those senses for your passion?’ And so poor Gideon got hauled through the coals (literally) and ended up losing the two senses- smell and taste- that he felt defined him as an award winning chef with his very own restaurant.

I could have written about a sculptor who lost feeling in his hands and couldn’t work with his beloved clay anymore. I could have written about a musician who lost his hearing and suffered every day not being able to create beautiful notes. However, for this story, I also wanted the series to start out with a familiar place, somewhere where people could meet, enjoy life and yet experience drama- and what better place than a restaurant, hence the whole cooking thing. Galileo’s was born, modelled on a great restaurant here in London called Bob Bob Ricard.

I think the part of this book I really enjoyed writing was the gradual evolution of Gideon from grouchy, tormented soul, to a man who, by the end of the book, truly appreciated all his senses and the man who’d opened them, and him, up to falling in love. Eddie is such a beautiful character, very giving and caring and he was such a pleasure to write. I love red heads myself and Eddie with his flame haired locks and green eyes was a pleasure to create. I hope everyone enjoys it and gets as much pleasure out of reading this story as I did writing it.

Review

FourStars

I was given this book for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.
Eddie and Gideon are fantastic together! They compliment each other’s personality, demeanor and lifestyle. This story has many unique qualities – but I like that the author wrote the two main characters to compliment each other so well.
Despite a traumatic event in Gideon’s past, he continues on his original path, with a slight detour. When Eddie joins his restaurant family, Gideon finds it difficult to be both infatuated and encouraging his new head chef.
Their relationship is slightly volatile to start, but after learning what makes each other tick, each other’s habits and gaining each other’s trust, their relationship blossoms in to one of mutual admiration and love. Eddie is able to help Gideon with his past trauma as well as his cousin, Luke, with his new change in life.
The supporting characters were slightly odd for me. While I really enjoyed Leslie’s personality, Taylor was a little bit of a stretch. You never really learned much about Taylor – his gift is really all that is talked about. He seems like an afterthought, and while he does pay a pivotal role in some of the story, I wish that we had learned more about Taylor and heard less about Leslie.
The story is sweet and it does make me wonder what is next for the couples within the story.

AuthorBio

Susan Mac Nicol is a self confessed bookaholic, an avid watcher of videos of sexy pole dancing men, self confessed geek and nerd and in love with her Smartphone. This little treasure is called ‘the boyfriend’ by her long suffering husband, who says if it vibrated, there’d be no need for him. Susan hasn’t had the heart to tell him there’s an app for that…

She is never happier than when sitting in the confines of her living room/study/on a cold station platform scribbling down words and making two men fall in love. She is a romantic at heart and believes that everything happens (for the most part) for a reason. She likes to think of herself as a ‘half full’ kinda gal, although sometimes that philosophy is sorely tested.

Lover of walks in the forest, theatre productions, dabbling her toes in the cold North Sea and the vibrant city of London where you can experience all four seasons in a day , she is a hater of pantomime (so please don’t tar and feather her), duplicitous people, bigotry and self righteous idiots.

In an ideal world, Susan Mac Nicol would be Queen of England and banish all the bad people to the Never Never Lands of Wherever -Who Cares. As that’s never going to happen, she contents herself with writing her HEA stories and pretending, that just for a little while, good things happen to good people.
