TWO 4 Star Reviews for Give Chase by Willa Okati #MM #Romance #Doctors @willaokati @Totally_Bound

1.3

Title: Give Chase
Author Name: Willa Okati
Publication Date: March 13, 2015

Synopsis

Declan’s always been careful to guard his heart, but Isaac’s catching up at last. Some things are worth fighting for, even when they’re running fast.

Dr. Isaac Paliades has never been much for letting sleeping dogs lie, and he’s been intrigued by his colleague Dr. Declan Day from the moment they met. Declan’s a hard man to get a read on, one minute cool as snow and the next minute hot-blooded enough to give Isaac a run for his money. Though they work together, play together—and occasionally sleep together—Isaac has yet to get a good look at the man Declan is behind the carefully constructed masks he shows to the world.

But when the pair of physicians rescue an abandoned baby discovered while they’re out for a jog, Isaac sees cracks start to appear in Declan’s façade. He’s taking the care of their foundling more seriously than anyone imagined he would, and bringing Isaac along for the ride. He’s asking for dominance in bed, and a deeper friendship at St. Hawk’s.

Isaac thinks he’s finally found the key to unlocking Declan’s guarded heart. But even when the walls come down, can Declan find the courage and will to let Isaac in?

Declan and Isaac are an interesting pair. I really enjoyed their friendship – their banter was always entertaining.
This book hit close to my heart. Adoption is something I am passionate about and I love how it is portrayed in this story. I also appreciate the role that DHS plays. It was nice to see that despite the rocky way DHS is usually portrayed, in the end, their job had to be done and was done by someone who truly cared. Having worked in the system, I know how broken it can be – but this story gives hope for those who are somewhat left behind.
I really liked that Isaac was such a strong force for Declan. I do wish that we learned more about the sibling relationship – that it wasn’t just mentioned. I thought the author could have also given the reader more about how Declan was feeling – rather than Isaac’s observations on Declan’s inner struggle.
Overall, this was a sweet story – almost a family story, because Isaac and Declan are friends, colleagues, lovers and overall, each other’s family.

I have to confess to bias here.  I love doctors.  Something about the compassion, intelligence, focus, commitment. I love them so much, I married one.  Declan and Isaac are both great examples.  I’m not sure whether I prefer the damaged, brooding Declan or the masterful and compassionate Isaac (is it warm in here?) but the men are hot and their chemistry hotter.

Willa Okati writes elegantly.  She develops her characters slowly, revealing them bit by bit.  I like the way the hospital provides a backdrop but the relationship develops outside of it.

That being said, I’m back to my biggest problem with great m/m books – they aren’t long enough.  In this book, readers watch these two men start to trust and fall for each other over the course of two weeks before the author fast-forwards a whole year to the epilogue.  Please, could m/m writers start filling in the missing years?  In this book, I want to know how the relationship develops.  I want to hear about snags along the way and how they were sorted.  I want to learn about the meshing of friends and family and job demands…

Whew!  I digress.  This is a beautifully written short novel about two very hot men with great chemistry.  I should just be happy.

Title: A Restored Man (The Men of Halfway House #3)
Author Name: Jaime Reese
Publication Date: February 17, 2015

Synopsis

Cole Renzo thinks his greatest challenge is to behave for the remainder of his term at Halfway House. Until he meets his new boss, Ty Calloway, a man who ticks off every box on Cole’s list of interests.

A sought-after restorer and customizer of exotic and collectible cars, Ty had enough confidence to command what he wanted in life, until one fateful night changed everything. Almost two years later, he’s slowly rebuilding his life with great control. He’s defied the odds and works tirelessly to be the man he once was—but he still feels broken.

Cole’s candor and unfiltered personality awaken Ty’s barely-remembered desire to greet each new day with a smile, while Ty’s unwavering acceptance of Cole’s quirks and brash humor makes Cole feel as if he fits in for the first time in far too long. When a nemesis threatens Ty’s personal restoration and the things he holds dear, Cole is determined to protect their relationship, even if that means sacrificing everything he’s worked so hard to achieve.

But Ty will have to let his guard down, surrender control, and admit he needs Cole first, even if that puts himself at risk of breaking beyond repair.

Each book in this series keeps getting better. I love that these books have such a good story that draws you into the book.  I get so hooked into the characters in this series and can’t wait to find out what they will get involved in.

The main characters in this book were Ty and Cole.  I loved Cole with his unfiltered mouth and his just letting it all out without thinking.  He was a very strong character that worked so hard at getting Ty out of his shell.  I thought Ty was very quiet and kept to himself, until he met Cole.

This book had laughter, action and very romantic love story.  A perfect book that kept me totally hooked until the end. I can’t wait until the next one comes out.

Rating: 5 Intense Stars!!

I was very excited when I found out Cole’s story was coming!! I have read the two previous stories in this series, and I highly recommend reading them first. (A Better Man, A Haunted Man)

Stories like the one’s Jaime Reese writes are the reason why M/M genre is my favourite to read. I love when you get Hero’s that are intense, passionate, vulnerable, and sexyyyy! This author pulls you in, without you even realising it, and you are laughing, crying and falling in love right along with them.

Cole…oh boy, has he got a mouth on him and I loved every wise-crack, heart-felt, dirty word that came out of him. Cole is the newest member of the Halfway House run by Julian and Matt, and they are still as much fun!

Ty, sigh “MyTy”, was my favourite out of all the crazy nic names Cole came up with. Ty is traumatized and scarred by a horrific accident in his very recent past, and Cole is not what he expected but did he ever shake up Ty’s world and it was perfect!!! They are incredible, amazing and so good together.

And if you are a fan of Jaime Reese then you know there is a villain, and the delivery, execution, take down of said villain is truly brilliant. Every scene actually in this story feels very realistic.

Jaime Reese is an incredible author and the journey’s she takes you on are very heart-felt and sexy and definitely worth your time.

AuthorInterview

  1. Do you name your books before or after you write them? How about the synopsis?

It varies. For A Restored Man, the title came to me when I neared the end. I toyed with a few options as I wrote, but the final title became clear before I finish the book. The synopsis usually comes when I’m about three-quarters into the story.

Ironically, the next book in the series is throwing me off – but that doesn’t entirely surprise me. It’s Aidan and he’ll do whatever he wants. I already have a blurb roughed out and a few options for titles and I’m only a few chapters into the story.  So I’ve noted them and set them aside. I want to see how the story develops on its own rather than worry if the story can match the blurb.

  1. Do you read books? What genre is your favorite?

When I have time, yes. I usually look for a book in the M/M genre. I have a handful of M/F authors I go to as well.

  1. What is one tip that you wish someone had told you?

Releasing a book is incredibly stressful. 🙂

  1. What is one thing not included in your bio? Something random that most people don’t know about you?

I’m also a cover artist with a strong focus in M/M. It’s hinted at in my bio, but not outright stated. I design cover art under the name, Reese Dante.

  1. If you couldn’t write in the genre you normally write in, what genre would you chose?

At this time, I don’t see myself writing anything other than M/M.  My current release, A Restored Man, is a character-driven contemporary romance. A Hunted Man (the second book in the series) is a romantic suspense. So both are rather different but still share my overall style of writing. I like the idea of exploring different themes within M/M and I’m not afraid to take a chance, but my stories will always include a romance element and a happily ever after.

  1. Do you have any special rituals/habits that you do when you write?

I must be able to ‘see’ my characters first. I define them (or they define themselves) before I can write any part of the story. Once they’re defined, the story starts coming together. In the early stages of a story, I need to write in complete silence. 🙂 I will listen to music, sit outside and get some fresh air for a while before I start. But once I start writing, I prefer to focus on setting the stage without interruptions until the story gets going. Once I get far enough along into the story, I tend to find it easier to write, regardless of interruptions.

  1. If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything about your latest book?

At this time, no. Maybe if you ask me the same question in a year or two the answer might be different since some experiences may influence a different direction in the story. But for now, I wouldn’t change anything.

I will read and re-read the story to death before it releases and endlessly tweak details to the point I’m certain I drive my editor insane, but I need to make sure it’s the best it can be for the story I had in mind at that time. That way, when I release it, I don’t beat myself up with the ‘what ifs’.

I know I can’t please everyone and I’m sure some readers would offer a different alternative for sections of the story, but in my mind, that’s how the characters and scenes played out for me as I wrote the story.

  1. Do you have anything specific to say to your readers?

THANK YOU. I appreciate you more than you will ever know.

  1. Do you ever experience writer’s block? If so, how do you break it?

It’s happened but I don’t dwell on it. I either skip whatever part is stopping me and jump to another scene, or just work on my cover art projects. If I worry too much about the writer’s block, I find it gets worse. I’m lucky to have both writing and cover art to focus on so I can juggle both depending upon what inspires me at the time.

  1. What’s next for you as a writer?

I’m currently working on the next book in the series (it will be Aidan’s story). It’s darker than my norm (for me at least) so I’m writing it a little at a time so it doesn’t weigh on me as much.

I’m also toying with another story I’ve had circling in my mind for some time. I have no idea if I’m going to finish it, but it’s been pushing me quite a bit lately. I probably won’t make any announcements until it’s completely written and well into edits. It’s something I want to do, but if I can’t do it justice, I probably won’t release it.

Both are still in the early stages but at least I have a tentative plan in mind.

Quickies…

Dog or Cat? Dog.

Favorite Color? Depends.

Favorite curse word? F*ck.

Short or tall? Depends.

Favorite holiday? Christmas.

Ninjas or Pirates? Ninjas.

If you are looking for a fast sexy read, this one is for you. Wow, love how Summer just let’s go with Ben on the plane.  But really, what was she thinking going home with a complete stranger (Ben)!  What a surprise when she gets there.  Rachael did a wonderful job catching everything into this fantastic short story.  The intensity of the sex at the apartment was hot and steamy.  But I couldn’t believe after all that, Summer walks away. Gotta say, the ending was awesome.  Excellent read by a wonderful author.

I was given this book for an honest review by Inked Rainbow Reads.

What can I say? This book had some HOT sex. Man, twins too! Yummy!  Bryce and Ben, twins in ALMOST every way… Summer is one lucky lady.

The plane scene was amazing! Everyone knows it’s hard to hear on the plane, so it’s the perfect spot! But, the scene at the house… MAN!

Despite the story being a little predictable, I really enjoyed it. Let’s just say that the author gave me a new wardrobe to wear on a plane ride!

“Ah, horrible timing as usual. Summer, meet Bryce, my twin. I told you I had a surprise for you. Although, now I’m wondering if I should’ve saved you all for myself.” Ben nipped at my bottom lip before stepping back. “After our little adventure on the plane, I knew you would be just the right woman to share with my brother. See, it takes a special woman to keep the interest of two men. A woman who can handle having the full attention of two men, four hands, two tongues, and two needy cocks. Do you think you can handle it?”

Mal is a wonderful character. I have seen him throughout the stories and absolutely love his personality and spirit.  I also really love how he views his job – his place within the family. While I don’t know a ton about his story, what little snippet we do see is tragic and heartbreaking. Despite those facts, Mal’s never ending hair color, bubbly personality and sass leave me wanting to know more about him. What makes him tick?

Reese is a character I wanted to bop over the head! Such a clueless man… Despite his cluelessness, I did come to like him too. However, I was mad at him for most of the book.

My heart broke for both of these characters in their struggles.  I wanted to hug them, tell them it was going to be OK.

Dorian is another loveable character in this story. We see a lot more of him and I really, really hope he gets his own book.

There are still unanswered questions in this story too. I hope the author starts to plug the holes they’ve written.

Ah Chandler… I love his character. Despite his “quirks” he is a tender, gentle person who wants to find a way through his issues. He works incredibly hard to minimize himself, which was hard to read about. I loved how accepting Samuel was of him. I also really like how they call each other by their “nicknames.”

Sully is written to great detail. I can totally see him in my head, which makes for a much better experience for the reader. He is strong, steady, patient, kind, and sounds HOT!

The relationship is somewhat shaky, due to Chandler’s issues, but I love, love, love their relationship. I also really like how Samuel steps in and helps them too. Everyone around them wants their relationship to succeed.

I can’t wait for issues that arise in this book to unfold in the following stories. I really hope things start to resolve, because this book left a lot of questions for the reader.

Jeremy is a book worm who finds himself needing some extra income. Despite his brains, unfortunately for him, science doesn’t pay all that well when you are in the middle of developing drugs. It’s only after the drug has been proven that it makes money.

I have to admit that I was skeptical about this book when I first began reading. The “service” position was one that piqued my curiosity. I hope places like this one exists – even though some of the men who frequented the place were creepy.

Brice is a character that I could really grow to love. I liked his innocence and his willingness to see his own desires – despite being uncomfortable at first. I also liked how his inner monologue was not too happy about having to “entertain” a potential customer, but he was willing to take one for the team.

Jeremy and Brice’s relationship is fragile in the beginning. I felt as though it was being held together by the thinnest of strings. I liked how Jeremy was able and willing to see beyond the man that Brice was at the club – to want more from him.

The scenes this book describes are very steamy – my food would definitely be cold before I even tasted it, since I would be gawking instead of eating.

I do hope that there is going to be a book about Kit. He was a crazy character who has so much potential! Also, I hope we learn more about the mysterious Sky Blue too!

I really enjoyed this first installment of the series. It was a little choppy to begin with – I didn’t know if Samuel was going to be a good guy or bad guy. He came down in his suits – sticking out like a sore thumb – I could just picture that in my head.

Then you have Dakota. I like his attitude toward what he has built. He has so much pride and honor in his business. He truly loves what he does and puts his heart and soul in to it.

The relationship between Dakota and Samuel is one, I think, of love and hate. They bicker like a couple that’s been together forever. But, they also have these tender moments too.

Overall this was a cute book. I wish there was more build up to the relationship. It seemed a little rushed. However, in the end, it doesn’t really matter how they get together, as long as they do.  I can’t wait to see what happens with the couple!

PTSD is discussed in this story, with war triggers.

I had not read the previous books in this series, but didn’t feel like I was missing much. Dennis did a great job at allowing a reader who just picked this story up to really know the characters.

Jude is such a kind soul. He exudes softness – and it’s not only because he had a medical dog, Dawson, who is also adorable. Jude has this calmness about him.

Elliott is a war vet, ER doctor who decides he needs a new pace to help him continue dealing with his PTSD flashbacks.

The “meet cute” was SO ADORABLE! Definitely a made for movie scene. Both Jude and Elliott come through their own trials, but through their love, stubbornness and friendship, both will find their way. I liked the community that this story takes place in – I hope communities like this really do exist.

I would read this author again, simply based on how much I enjoyed this story.

Synopsis

Being a Dom in secret—being mated to another wolf in secret—is something Vann has always done, but now he has the chance to be open about his whole life.

Vann grew up under the rule of an alpha at Crossways Compound, who controlled every aspect of his pack members’ lives. Used to obeying without question, Vann suddenly finds himself in a position where he can make his own decisions outside his sexual relationship. In the past, his trysts with his subby lover, Kip, have been in secret, snatched moments away from security cameras or listening devices. Now they’ve been welcomed at Highgate, a safe haven, life should work out beautifully.

But there’s something Vann has to do first. He has to return to his childhood compound to right the wrongs that were done there. Along with Kip and members of the Highgate security team, Vann has to play the biggest role of his life so far in order to bring down the alpha at Crossways and rescue some cross-bred cubs. It isn’t going to be easy, going against someone he’s been conditioned to obey, but for the sake of his pack and the safety of the cubs, he’ll do whatever it takes.

Kip is determined to be with Vann every step of the way. Usually, Kip is submissive in all aspects of their life, preferring to bow his head and only speak when he’s given permission. But their return to Crossways changes all that. The danger there is too great for Kip to wait for Vann’s instructions on everything he does. Kip knows that to keep Vann safe, he must become more dominant—or die trying.

This book does suggest at an abusive home life and BDSM (heavier on the SM). If these bother you, do not read.

This story, while detailed and intriguing just didn’t hit it with me. The sex was hot, but the story fell kind of flat for me. I think it might have been better had the story been more about Kip and Vann’s relationship and less about how they lived and had to always hide their relationship.

I am intrigued to see if the next book will be about the relative that who is mentioned. Maybe I would have enjoyed the story more had I read the first of the series – who knows.

Sydney has always enjoyed writing. “There’s something about losing yourself in another world, where the real one ceases to exist and all your dreams and wishes can be placed on the page—dreams for a better planet where love isn’t questioned but accepted by all.”
When Sydney isn’t writing, there’s plenty of reading to be done. “I can’t imagine not reading every day. It would be weird not to have a book to hand because I’ve always had one nearby. Life without reading isn’t something I’d like to contemplate. The thought brings me out in hives.”
Sydney lives in a peaceful area where the hustle and bustle of the city doesn’t figure. “I left city life years ago. Too stressful for me. I prefer listening to the swish of leaves on the trees instead of tyres on tarmac. The twittering of birds instead of the chatter of people. Alone time to reflect and ponder is a must. A small portion of every day spent by myself is vital to my sanity and soul.”

Synopsis

How do you stay standing when the ground is torn from beneath your feet?

Becket and Christian are taking the first, tentative steps towards the committed D/s relationship they both crave when the world literally explodes around them. In a frightening reversal of roles, Becket has to deal with his own vulnerability and Christian must find the strength to take care of his Dom. With the help of their friends at The Edge, the two men come to realise that dominance and submission cannot be switched on and off.

Events that could have ended in tragedy provide the catalyst that affirms their trust in each other, but there are still questions to answer. Is the safe path always the right one to take? Is control simply a state of mind?

One thing’s for certain, life’s too short for compromise.

Reader Advisory: This book is best read in sequence as part of a series.

Review

ThreeandHalfStars

Christian and Dave (Becket) have a somewhat strange relationship. Because of Becket’s job, because of Christian’s submissive nature, it takes them quite a while to come together.
I felt that this story was somewhat rushed in a way. There was really no courtship – we only know that they have played a few times, but there was really no buildup. We were just kind of thrust in to this story – somewhat in the middle.
This was not one of my favorites for this series. Christian is a sub who needs ultimate dominance. We hear about it throughout the story. However, Becket, I felt, never really shows that ultimate control. There were too many other things going on in this book.
There were hints that could have taken off in the direction I thought this book would have gone, but we only ever got promises of control and dominance. I wish this book would have started earlier in their courtship – that there had been a courtship and that the focus would have been more on their relationship.

AuthorBio

I live in a small village in the English countryside, surrounded by rolling hills, cows and sheep. I started writing to fill time between jobs and am now firmly and unashamedly addicted.

I love the English weather, especially the rain, and adore a thunderstorm. I love good food, warm company and a crackling fire.

I’m fascinated by the psychology of relationships, especially between men, and my stories contain some subtle (and not so subtle) leanings towards BDSM.
