Synopsis

Tony DeLuca has to get to New York, nor’easter be damned. His older sister is getting married and it won’t matter to her if the entire east coast is shut down if it means she’s short a groomsman. She’s the only reason he’s willing to make the trip home to face a father who’s never forgiven him for wasting a perfectly good degree to become a firefighter. And that’s only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to everything about Tony that his father will never accept.

Dominic Tricoli’s living his dream. He’s spent the past few years working to mesh his business degree and love of the outdoors into a thriving company, providing team building retreats for some of the country’s largest corporations. Unfortunately, there’s a price to pay for happiness, and having someone to come home to at night is the sacrifice Dominic made.

When Dominic overhears Tony’s plight, he’s drawn to help the man get to New York City. Little does Dominic know that one kind gesture will awaken a side of him he’s ignored for far too long. Against his better judgment, he gives in to his desires and Tony’s advances. Just for the night.

When destiny steps in, giving him another chance with the charismatic man who saved his hide, Tony’s willing to do whatever it takes to earn Dominic’s forgiveness and understanding. There may not be forever, but Tony’s determined to enjoy every single minute he’s given with Dominic.

You can’t fight fate. Whatever’s meant to happen, eventually will.

I really wanted to like this. I loved the idea of attraction leading to more with a series of coincidences. That part of the story actually did end up being fun, and if it had stuck to that, it would have been a great casual holiday read. It also made me smile to see my home city get more than a casual mention.

Unfortunately, I didn’t end up liking the book as much as I wish I did. I personally did not enjoy the repeated reminders that these are manly men who don’t appreciate anything that seems too feminine. I was also not impressed at all with the end. I felt that entire portion of the plot could have been left off. It wasn’t executed well and was, in my opinion, unrealistic and gratuitous.

The writing is very good, in terms of style, and it’s clear this is the sort of book many people would enjoy for the way it follows a typical romance formula. I’m probably not the best audience for this book. I’m sure there are other readers who will love it, though, especially if they are already fans of Ms. Johnson’s work.

Excerpt

So much for never seeing one another again. Had I known that I was going to see Dominic this weekend, I might have tried harder to make things right with him Thursday night. If I’d realized the Cara he mentioned was marrying his college roommate was my sister, who I’ve always called Caroline, I wouldn’t have touched him no matter how much I wanted to. Actually, that’s probably not true, because he’s damn fine and I’m not stupid enough to pass up an opportunity when it presents itself. But I definitely wouldn’t have walked away until I knew that neither of us had any regrets.

I trip over my feet as I follow the rest of the groomsmen into the front of the cathedral, my attention focused on the man sitting next to Mr. and Mrs. Rossi, looking like he’s just been scolded.

Dominic was gorgeous the night we met, but now, he’s downright breathtaking. I take my place in line and, because God has a twisted sense of humor, I’m going to be stuck knowing that Dominic is directly behind me for the next hour and there’s not a damn thing I can do about it.

As we wait for what seems like forever for all of Caroline’s bridesmaids to make the mile-long trek to the front of the cathedral, I try to catch Kennedy’s attention. Thursday night, I told her everything. After telling her about the sexy-as-fuck scene in the truck, I went on to tell her how much it annoyed me that Dominic and I parted on bad terms. She agreed with Dominic that there was no need to feel anything since we’d never see one another again. When Kennedy finally makes eye contact with me, I nod ever so slightly to my left and watch as her eyes threaten to bug out of her head. “Oh, my God. Is that him?” she mouths. I nod subtly. “Are you going to talk to him?” she asks. I shrug, and catch the attention of my older brother, who is standing directly behind me.

“Anthony, quit talking to your girlfriend,” he hisses. “Caroline needs you to make her the priority for the next hour, then you can run off and find a quiet corner to do whatever it is the two of you do.” I close my eyes tightly before glancing at Dominic, finally realizing that he probably thinks the same thing I’ve led most of my family to believe all these years. The urge to elbow Peter in the gut to show him exactly what I think of his comment is strong, but I’ve already made enough of a scene. If he noticed, I’m sure other people have as well. And sure enough, Dominic is now glaring at me. He looks across the aisle and his entire body stiffens when he notices Kennedy sitting with my family. I need this wedding to hurry the fuck up so I can get a drink.

The music changes and everyone stands and turns to see Caroline and our father walking down the aisle. I take the opportunity to admire the way Dominic’s suit jacket hangs off his shoulders. The subtle pinstripes act as beacons, drawing my eye down to his narrow hips, and suddenly I’m standing in the cathedral with a semi, thinking about the tight ass beneath those perfectly tailored pants. Go straight to Hell. Do not pass Go, do not collect two-hundred dollars.

Sloan Johnson is a big city girl trapped in a country girl’s life. While she longs for the hustle and bustle of New York City or Las Vegas, she hasn’t yet figured out how to sit on the deck with her morning coffee, watching the deer and wild turkeys in the fields while surrounded by concrete and glass.

When she was three, her parents received their first call from the principal asking them to pick her up from school. Apparently, if you aren’t enrolled, you can’t attend classes, even in Kindergarten. The next week, she was in preschool and started plotting her first story soon after.

Later in life, her parents needed to do something to help their socially awkward, uncoordinated child come out of her shell and figured there was no better place than a bar on Wednesday nights. It’s a good thing they did because this is where she found her love of reading and writing. Who needs socialization when you can sit alone in your bedroom with a good book?

Now, Sloan is a tattooed mom with a mohawk and two kids. She’s been kicked out of the PTA in two school districts and is no longer asked to help with fundraisers because she’s been known to lose herself with a good book and forget she has somewhere to be.

Seth and Bilal meet through a fateful series of events. Their love is nearly instantaneous, and without angst. Bilal, initially conflicted about being gay, adapts pretty easily, though he remains closeted (see book two?). What Bilal didn’t count on from his pretty artist boyfriend is a whole heap of parents, an adorable little sister, and great friends.
As a romance, this book is a bit thin. However, as a book about family, this book is warm and giving and poignant. It takes place during the fall and winter, culminating at New Year’s, which makes it a perfect Christmas read, and a good start to a promising series.

Excerpt

“Why don’t you watch where you’re going, dumb—” I managed to sputter before my mouth stopped working entirely and dropped open. The ability to speak, to think, deserted me at the first sight of the hunky stranger standing in front of me, his face contorted with apology as he tried to mop up my sodden jacket with a handful of napkins. He was a few inches taller than me—closer to six feet—and on the stocky side. His broad shoulders filled out a nicely tailored suit, and he projected an air of confidence that I’d never be able to pull off in a million years. He was clean-shaven too, with a dark buzz cut that made me long to run a hand over his head simply to feel the texture. And gorgeous. Did I happen to mention that?

In short, he was the kind of guy you’d want to be stranded with on a deserted island; the kind you could count on to save you. If you were so inclined. Me? I didn’t need saving.

A pair of friendly, light-colored eyes now stared back at me, bemused. Odd that his lips were moving, but no sound was coming out.

“What?” I asked, blinking back to attention. I couldn’t remember the last time anyone had literally made me speechless. Me, Miles Koprowski, who never met a silence he didn’t want to fill.

Hell, I couldn’t recall the last time I’d been on the receiving end of a full-body pat-down either. At least not so quickly. His hands were still drifting over my chest, wiping up the last drips of coffee, and the simple touch was doing alarming things to my heart rate.

“Are you okay?” he demanded. “Did you get burned?” Before I could react, he seized my wrist and held my hand up for inspection. Strong, lightly calloused fingers, I added to my mental list. Working hands. Dumbly, I looked down. The skin on the back of my right hand was red and stung like a son of a bitch, but it wasn’t blistering. I did flinch slightly when he skimmed his thumb over the sensitive area, but not from pain, more from the touch itself. My entire body lit up, as though I’d stuck a finger in an electrical socket. “It doesn’t look too bad. I think you’ll live. Put some aloe on it when you get home.”

“Doctor?” I croaked, because really, that would be too perfect.

“Nope. Just seen a lot of injuries.” His lips twitched with barely contained amusement. “Sorry to disappoint you.” Sense of humor, check.

This book had an excellent story that actually makes you believe that there are good people who you can truly trust.  It was full of crime, mystery and of course romance.
There was plenty of anticipation towards the end to find out the outcome, it kept me interested throughout, along with a few twists you won’t expect.

Slade/Lonnie was a troubled man.  You had to really feel sorry for him, he didn’t have family that would accept him, so turning to prostitution was his only choice.  He didn’t have a lot of friends. He was afraid to believe anyone would actually want to help him.  I definitely didn’t like his lousy, no good pimp. He was portrayed as a criminal and lived up to every word.

I thought Parker was a dedicated patrolman for Last Vegas, who had a caring partner. The author did a great job when telling Parkers story, I liked that he had to actually weigh how much he cared for Brett and how to let him down. It wasn’t just about him and Slade/Lonnie, but a story about his previous boyfriend and events that occur in real life. I liked that he went out of his way to help Slade/Lonnie without knowing him, but feeling an attraction to him. They both had to work through trust issues.

This was an enjoyable book. I would read more by this author.

Synopsis

— Too cool for school. —

Ethan is a levelheaded, some might say ‘antisocial’, young artist-entrepreneur with a love for quirky taxidermy. He is close to graduating high school and at a crossroads. All he wants is to develop his business further, yet all his parents want is for him to go to law school. That is more than enough problems for Ethan, so any kind of love life is off his agenda. That is until Robert Hunter, the quarterback of the football team, comes crashing into him. Literally.

Robert drifts along in high school. He has good grades, he’s getting ready for med school, he’s even leaving potentially problematic dating until college. He’s gay, not ashamed of it, but he doesn’t want to stir up any trouble. His carefully laid plans might just go completely off the rails though, when he drinks too much at a party and causes irreversible damage to Ethan, the school’s weirdo.

Robert has to face the fact that maybe he isn’t the good guy he always considered himself to be. And maybe he doesn’t want to go to med school. And maybe, just maybe, he doesn’t actually want to wait with dating until college.

I got assigned this book because no one else would take it because of it’s title. So I’m the one who got the amazing pleasure of reading this gem. It’s utterly fantastic. Beautifully written, FUN, and sexy as hell.
Ethan-I’m-Not-Goth! and Robert-Star-Quarterback are an unlikely pair, thrown together by violence and its fallout, including a non-consensual encounter. It’s not what you think. Yes, trigger warning, this book takes itself very seriously, and won’t be for everyone.
And yes, there is a lot of taxidermy. Which is really interesting, and creative, and visual, but again, not for everybody.
If you’re willing to throw caution to the wind for teenage sexcapades, this is the book for you. I learned something and had fun cheering on the characters. Isn’t that what comes of great books?

Dax and Adin have a history that was full of fire – but a fire that dwindled quickly. Despite their past, when Adin’s life is in danger, Dax can’t help but try to protect him, even if that means pushing Adin away again. Both have killer instincts and a need to take care of themselves.

When Adin and Dax come together, the sex is intense, animalistic and incredible. Their connection is so strong, but their individual needs are still what they were before – Dax’s need to protect, Adin’s need to ensure that he doesn’t lose himself.

Frustrated with the murder case, Dax is slowly teasing out who is responsible. I liked how his extra abilities allowed him to see the truth in some and the lies in others. Also, I liked how the author was able to write a very well planned out murder mystery in such a short amount of time.
I was a little disappointed that the villain was resolved as quickly as it was, because I would have liked to know more about the history in that story.Overall this was a great mystery, one that kept the reader on their toes. I would definitely read this author again.

Growing up in the Midwest, I began reading romance novels in high school, immediately falling in love with the genre, to the point where I decided to write professionally for a career. However, that dream splattered against a brick wall and resulting quick death in my first writing class in college when my professor told me bluntly that I wasn’t any good at it.

I shifted gears quickly, and left my writing dreams behind, eventually settling on being a nurse. A few years back, I stumbled across a fan-fiction writing site on a favorite author’s webpage. I began to read stories others wrote, not only making some wonderful close friends from the experience, but also, really learning to write for the very first time. Here I was able to share short stories, practice my writing skills, and truly develop into a writer. More than that, the experience allowed me to revitalize my dream, as I rediscovered joy in writing.

When I’m not working or writing, I enjoy working in the garden, canning, and seeing my backyard as a living canvas for my whimsical landscaping, and, of course, reading romance novels.

I enjoy reading A.E.Via’s books.  They are sexy, thrilling and entertaining.  She captures lots of action to keep you interested.  This one didn’t disappoint, it had hot alpha men throughout the whole book with an exciting storyline.  There was humor and a good sense of family.  The secondary characters played a large part in this book, even though they have their own books.
Ruxs was a hard working man, very dedicated to his mother. Green was a very caring good friend to Ruxs, who stood by him through a very hard time with his mom.  Green took responsibility for a young boy, Curtis, like he was his own, when he was just a kid in trouble.  Green and Ruxs spent all their free
time together even after being partners all day at work. It was great reading as Ruxs became aware of his feelings.   It was exciting how they faced life threatening situations and then could be so loving towards each other.  There was so many times I was either laughing or crying, because the story got you so involved.  Definitely a must read book.

This quick read was fairly enjoyable. There were things I liked and things I thought were just okay.

I liked that the story dealt with feelings related to past trauma without making it into a “save you” kind of story. I also appreciated that the sex fit well with the themes of the story rather than being “magical.”

I did struggle a bit with the flow of the narrative. I thought the author relied too much on telling rather than showing, especially during the set-up. I also felt like we knew a lot about Sean but very little of Dave. Along those lines, I found the story of what happened to Sean to be rushed and vague. Also, for a story largely set in a corporation, it was odd that we didn’t know anything about their purpose or products until halfway through, and even then not much. A lot of the beginning sounded like it was written in org-speak—it was a bit dull.

Once the relationship between Dave and Sean was established, the story took off and was much better. The first half needed to be of the same quality.

FourStars

This epic period piece captivated me and took me into Classical antiquity through the lens of two yearning men struggling to rise above their era. I was expecting a historical setting half-assed for the sake of sexual allure, which I’ve experienced in the past, but this was the opposite.
Oh, the sex was hot, and plentiful, and developed with a lovely slow burn. But it’s interspersed with goat herding (not a euphemism), Spartan intrigues, adorable ferret antics (not a euphemism), and the Greek Gods themselves.
This book is well-researched and yet the story is not exposition, but experiential. Okay, I feel like I’m describing what the book is not. Whatever negative connotations might come along with the somewhat shallow title (or is that just me?) they will be dispelled immediately.
The book IS a lovely love story between two young, strapping men of great physical prowess and thoughtful introspection. Antiquity is well-represented, but I want more. I’m encouraged that this is listed as part of a series. Onward!

Theron stirred in his arms, making sleepy little noises and tugging Andreas’ arm tighter around his bare chest. Andreas froze. Was he waking up? How would he react to being in Andreas’ embrace? Wasn’t this something usually reserved for lovers?

They weren’t lovers. Never could be. But the longer Theron stayed, the more Andreas wished for. He wanted Theron more than was good for either of them. It was much too late now for Theron to leave without taking a bit of Andreas with him. Every instinct warned Andreas to keep this man at arm’s length, but his body kept betraying him.

But did Theron want him as much? Or was he happy with whatever they could seize?

Theron rolled over onto his belly with Andreas’ arm still tightly in his grip, dragging Andreas half atop his back. Andreas lay with his head pillowed on Theron’s shoulder.

The warm comforting scent of another human surrounded him, working its magic. Andreas sank against Theron and closed his eyes. He could dream they would be together forever even if that could never happen in reality

AuthorBio

Kayla Jameth grew up on the family farm in Ohio, baling hay, raising cattle, and making maple syrup. An unrepentant tomboy, her father taught her to weld before she graduated from high school.

She attended Cleveland’s Case Western Reserve University and later, Texas A&M University in her pursuit of veterinary medicine, taking her farther away from her rural roots. You can transplant the county girl, but you can’t make her a city slicker. Besides, it was only going to be for a little while, right?

But it wasn’t all hard work for Kayla, her sojourn as the princess of the Celestial Kingdom left her with the title sir and a costume closet the envy of many knights, lords, and ladies. See? She does have some ladylike qualities complete with the title of Lady to back it up.

After declaring for years that she was just a veterinarian who wrote not an author, Kayla now finds herself living in Spring, Texas (practically Houston) and writing m/m erotic romance. The location is probably a bigger surprise than the genre. Never the kind of girl to discuss makeup and clothing designers, she would rather be outside getting dirty with the boys.

Kayla shares her home with a cat, two guinea pigs, a gerbil, three guppies, a husband and a son and daughter.

Review

FiveStars

This book contains some violent abuse, rape and eludes to underage, forced sex. If these are going to bother you, don’t read.

This was a wonderful story. The characters were all so very real. Carrington did an amazing job writing the relationships amongst the entire group of boys. As a reader, I was able to glean all of their different personalities, their quirks amongst each other and the love that they had for each other.

The two main characters, Angel and Garcia had an epic love for each other. While I was slightly skeptical at the beginning of this book, it turned out to be an incredibly fast, easy read, with a lot of heartfelt moments, moments where I wanted to do real harm to some characters and a story that I loved watching unfold.

Angel and Garcia… two men, one soul. That’s pretty much all I can say about them. They are perfect for each other. The other boys/men in this story were just as vital; they helped create the family support network, despite both main characters having amazing families, sometimes the family you choose is even more powerful.

I would definitely recommend this story.

What is your all-time favorite book?

The Stand by Stephen King. There was not one thing not covered in the book, the aftermath of the virus killing off 98% of the population, the people left, the things left for the people to keep using! Then add in some supernatural stuff, and bam, you have a winner!
What is the last thing you want to hear before falling asleep at night?

I love you!
What talent do you wish you had but don’t?

Singing! I always wanted to be a singer, but I’m so tone deaf my dogs howl when I sing. Roseanne Barr is Pavarotti compared to me!

AuthorBio

Rain Carrington started writing when she was just a teenager in Trinidad, Colorado but didn’t start writing M/M romance until much later. Through the years many of her gay male friends told stories of heartache and the struggle to find “the one” so she told them stories, fantasies all about them and their future cowboy, fireman, biker or policeman. When she found a writing site that encouraged her to write them down she started what was an adventure like she never had before.

Her first story, Cabin fever, about a young man searching for love and finding it wrapped in a member of a mafia family gained her readers who cheered for more. She knew then that she had found her place in the world. To make stories of love and kink that not only her readers but she could get lost in as well.

Rain now lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado but has traveled most of the US. Her last road trip to San Francisco gave her characters still coming out…no pun intended…in her newer stories. Rain has severe scoliosis which makes it hard for her to do all the things she used to love but it did give her the time to write that she never had before. She fights for lgbt rights from her home as best she can now and keeps in close contact with her friends that fight on two good legs to point them where they should go. She is a fervent believer that one door never closes without another opening so there are no limits she can’t get past.

Of all the people in the world no one has encouraged and supported her like her friends, many of them writers themselves, and her family. There is never a dull moment in her home where laughter is in the air 24/7 and everyone knows to avoid the computer screen when she sits in front of it. They never know what kind of beautiful man love they may see. Rain calls it research, they call it, “there she goes again!”
