Surrounded by secrets, two men search for a serial killer, while trying to keep it from becoming personal.

Mac Guzman is a Texas Ranger and lead detective on a serial killer case rocking the city of Houston. He’s willing to take help from anyone, especially when it comes in the form of the gorgeous FBI profiler, Tanner Wallace. Mixing business with pleasure has never been an option for Mac, but he just might change his mind and seduce Tanner into his bed.

Tanner Wallace joined the Bureau and became a profiler to catch bad guys. Also, it might have a little do with making up for the evil caused by his family’s business. When he’s called in to consult on a serial killer case in Houston, Tanner never expects to meet Mac. The handsome Texas Ranger brings to mind hot, sweaty nights wrapped in each other’s arms, yet Tanner knows Mac would walk away if he ever found out who Tanner’s family really is.

With the threat of another murder hanging over their heads, Tanner and Mac will have to find a way to work past their differences before the killer strikes again.

FiveStars

Mac and Tanner were a great duo. Mac was always looking for the answer. His inquisitive nature was something that I loved about his character. Tanner was more of an introvert – more bookworm type. Both characters seemed to be looking for something (other than the killer) throughout the story.

I liked how Chase set up for what could be the next book. Both characters were deep, but I do wish that we had more information on Mac. Tanner’s background helped a lot in allowing me to understand where he was coming from.

The mystery of the killer, the family drama, and the secrets that Tanner keeps – they made for a great story. I can’t wait for the next book!!!

3 Stars for Third Eye by Rick R. Reed – #MM #Mystery @rickrreed

Third Eye

Title: Third Eye
Author Name: Rick R. Reed
Publication Date & Length: November 11, 2014 – 264 pgs

Synopsis

Who knew that a summer thunderstorm and his lost little boy would conspire to change single dad Cayce D’Amico’s life in an instant? With Luke missing, Cayce ventures into the woods near their house to find his son, only to have lightning strike a tree near him, sending a branch down on his head. When he awakens the next day in the hospital, he discovers he has been blessed or cursed—he isn’t sure which—with psychic ability. Along with unfathomable glimpses into the lives of those around him, he’s getting visions of a missing teenage girl.

When a second girl disappears soon after the first, Cayce realizes his visions are leading him to their grisly fates. Cayce wants to help, but no one believes him. The police are suspicious. The press wants to exploit him. And the girls’ parents have mixed feelings about the young man with the “third eye.”

Cayce turns to local reporter Dave Newton and, while searching for clues to the string of disappearances and possible murders, a spark ignites between the two. Little do they know that nearby, another couple—dark and murderous—are plotting more crimes and wondering how to silence the man who knows too much about them.

ThreeStar

Third Eye is a mystery/thriller by Rick Reed. Third Eye is a dark, gruesome book, and probably not for everyone. Typical for what you would find in the genre.
Cayce D’Amico is a single father struggling to live a good life in a small town. He’s likable enough, though I never did get used to his name. He’s joined in his reluctant crime-stopping by Dave Newton, the town reporter, who is a somewhat bland older man, if British, and JK Simmons, your typical worn-out female cop.
There’s only a tiny bit of romance in this book, but it matters. Family life, love, and settling down are offered up as the novel’s themes, and they permeate throughout the story in various forms, including via the villains, who are also interesting in their own ways.
The story starts out strong but lags in the middle. I found myself skimming. But at no point did I want to stop reading. I was compelled by the story to read to the end. The end is where the action is, and becomes quite a lot of fun.
